Atlas Maior is an Austin, Texas-based band that blends progressive jazz with diverse world music traditions from the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and India. The band's sound is characterized by its original compositions that fuse Middle Eastern modal systems (maqamat) with American jazz harmony, creating a cinematic and often improvised musical landscape. The core members are Joshua Thomson on saxophone and flutes, and Josh Peters on oud and lavta.
